Friday Field Notes: 2/28/2025
Happy Friday, folks.
Can you believe February is already over?
If you’re doing quarterly strategies, next week is the time you should be asking your clients about their initiatives for Q2.
This gives you time to incorporate their goals into your strategy for the next quarter.
You’re already producing value with your campaigns, but imagine if you ALSO helped your champion hit their goals?
Everything in marketing comes down to status. If you can make them look good, there’s a better chance of sticking around for the long term.
Make them shine!
Lessons Learned This Week:
1. Your brand is what you tolerate.
Your brand ultimately comes down to your reputation. Everything you do influences it.
Respond slowly to a client? Leave a less-than-professional comment on a LinkedIn post? Leave your shopping cart in the parking lot?
Someone is noticing, and you’re going to be impacted.
On the flip side, this also includes how you let people engage with you. Let them walk all over you, and it influences your relationship. Let same talk down to you…same.
Be deliberate in what you’re willing to tolerate.
2. Simplicity Scales, Complexity Fails
I’ve known this for a while, but it was reinforced with advice I gave someone this week.
We were chatting in LinkedIn DMs, and they asked how I’d frame all their offerings.
I told them I’d kill all but the best performing one, assuming they enjoyed delivering it.
Oddly enough, they took advice from a stranger on the internet and had someone purchase that week, stating, “I love how simple your offer is.”
Sometimes, removing options is the best option.
3. Pricing is a positioning tool
Price too high or too low, and you can actually repel the clients you’re targeting.
While value is the most important piece of this, there’s a certain price point your prospects are prepared to pay. They’ve already mentally accepted how much it’ll cost.
If you’re not in that range, it requires more thinking on their part. And unfortunately, most people don’t like to think.
Content I Enjoyed:
Normally, I share other people’s content. But oh well, it’s my newsletter.
Plus, this video was a lot of fun to make, and I want more people to watch, even if it’s lackluster.
After you watch, go check out Jason Calhoun. He’s worth a follow.
Quote That Slaps:
“Some people create haystacks of bullshit so no one will want to look for the needle.” - Anon
I’ll just leave that one there…
