Friday Field Notes: 4/11/2025
Happy Friday, folks.
It’s been a while.
I’m sure you’ve survived without these, but I’m back to hopefully make your week a bit better.
I got to travel for the Agency Builders Retreat in St. Augustine where I presented the Offer Advantage.
My trip was bookended by snowstorms here in Maine, so escaping to Florida for a bit was awesome.
I also had some time with the Army where I made sure all US-based subscribers had their tax dollars well spent. You’re welcome.
The biggest thing I want to put on your radar right now is the All-In Agency Summit.
It is coming to you May 1st, and we have 25 agency advisors and experts presenting on a wide range of topics.
The event is 100% free and runs all day.
For all attendees, I'm also sending the event playbook that I use to run these summits in case event-led growth is your focus.
You can sign up right now at allinagencysummit.com.
Lessons Learned This Week:
1. There's always another business model.
I met someone this past week who's doing the same thing I'm doing for work but making four times as much money.
The difference isn't in how many hours we're working or what we're offering; it's just how everything is packaged.
This gave me some decent insights on how I can help my clients figure out the right model for them.
2. The best deals often happen when you're willing to walk away completely.
This is a lesson I already knew, but it was reaffirmed yet again this week with a client.
They didn't feel someone was in their exact ICP, and the person initially pushed back on the price. My client was willing to walk away from that offer, but the person actually came back with a different idea, and it’s profitable for my client even in the short term.
Being able to give a confident "no" in the sales process makes it way easier to even have these conversations.
Know what you want and what you’re worth. It helps.
3. Question: If people get closer to me, do they win?
Someone proposed this question to me almost as a mental model, and I've been using it in every conversation I'm having. If people get closer to me, do they win?
It makes me lean harder into my value of positive-sum games to ensure I'm doing the things that will allow others to be successful.
I'd add this one to your kit bag.
